The research conducted by Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, report that most of the restaurants at major airports of the USA ‘are attempting to meet the demand’. The scoring in the research depended on the availability of items offering food which is good for health and heart. The presence of fast food chains at the airports affected their ranks.
The research which surveyed 15 airports in the USA, finds that most of the airports (83%) offer food which includes vegetarian, cholesterol-free and low-fat items good for heart. Detroit’s Metropolitan Wayne County Airport which has been maintaining its standards in providing quality food to the travelers ranks first in this survey by getting 100% score. It means that all the 59 restaurants at this airport provide healthy food. San Francisco stands second in providing healthy food. According to the survey 96% of the restaurants at this airport provide healthy food. Washington Dulles stands third with 92% score. Minneapolis-St. Paul is ranked fourth with 86% score. Dallas-Fort Worth, Las Vegas, DenverMiami, Phoenix, Charlotte, Orlando, Los Angeles. Baltimore/Wash and Washington National are the other airports that come among the top 10. Atlanta, the busiest airport of the world, came at the 11th rank due to the presence of fast food chains at the airport. It’s Hartsfield-Jackson International airport has 64 restaurants out of 90 restaurants which appeared to provide health food to the travelers. The officials of these airports are planning to boost their restaurants by working with the nutritionists. The Detroit airport worked with Henry Ford Hospital in 2003 to help boost its healthy food offerings.
